Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information the GeoSnapr app (iOS and Android) and this website process, why, and the choices you have. GeoSnapr is developed and operated by Mint-Soft.
1 Summary
GeoSnapr is designed so that your photos, videos, audio notes and locations stay on your device. We do not upload your photos, videos, audio notes, coordinates, addresses, sensor readings or notes to our servers, and we never receive your PIN or biometric data. Some features need to contact third-party services (address lookup, weather, maps, a network time check, ads and purchases), and the app sends us a small amount of anonymous technical data. Keep in mind that stamped photos carry their location — and, with a verification stamp, verification data — inside the file, so anyone you share a photo with can read it, and that reports and copies you export go wherever you send or save them. Each case is described below.
2 Information processed on your device
The app uses your camera, your device's precise location while you are using the app, and photos you choose to import. The microphone is used only when you record a video or an audio note, and only if you allow it; if you deny access, videos are recorded without sound and audio notes can't be recorded. When you import photos — one at a time or several for batch stamping — the app reads their EXIF metadata (GPS location, capture time and camera details) on your device to build the stamp. Photos, videos, timelapses, audio notes, drawings, coordinates, street addresses, weather and sensor readings, tags, notes, templates and settings are stored locally in the app's storage on your device, and stamped photos and videos can also be saved to your photo library. We do not receive this data. You can delete records in the app at any time; deleting the app removes its local data.
3 Motion, compass and pressure sensors
To show the level indicator and stamp tilt, heading, magnetic field and air pressure, the app reads your device's accelerometer, magnetometer and barometer (where the device has them) on your device. On iOS, the system may ask for Motion & Fitness access; if you decline, those values are simply left out. True north (magnetic declination, World Magnetic Model 2025) and height above sea level (EGM96 geoid) are calculated on your device from models built into the app, without contacting any server. If you turn these fields on, the values are printed on the photo, saved with the record and included in reports you create. Sensor readings are never sent to us or to third parties.
4 Photo metadata and verification data
Stamped photos saved by GeoSnapr store the location, capture time and, when available, the camera direction in the file's EXIF metadata, in addition to what is printed on the image. If you use the verification stamp (Pro), the app also creates a verification record — the verification code, a hash (SHA-256) of the saved file, the time source (network time or device clock), the device clock offset and whether a mock location was detected. This record is stored locally on your device and written into the photo's EXIF metadata together with the precise coordinates, capture time and accuracy. It stays on your device until you share the photo: when you send or upload a stamped photo, this metadata — including precise coordinates — travels with the file and can be read by the people and services you share it with. Some messengers and social networks remove metadata; others keep it.
5 App lock, PIN and biometrics
App lock (Pro) protects GeoSnapr with a 4–6 digit PIN and, if you choose, your device's biometrics such as Face ID, Touch ID or a fingerprint. Biometric checks are performed entirely by your device's operating system: the app only learns whether the check succeeded. Your fingerprint or face data never leaves your device, and neither the app nor Mint-Soft ever receives or stores it. Your PIN is never stored as entered — the app keeps only a salted one-way hash of it (PBKDF2), locally on your device, and your lock settings are not sent anywhere. You can turn app lock and biometric unlock off in Settings › Security.
6 Address lookup
To show a street address, the app sends coordinates to your operating system's geocoding service — Apple on iOS, Google on Android. This includes the location of the photos you take and, when you import or batch-stamp photos, the location stored in each imported photo. That provider processes the request under its own privacy policy.
7 Weather
To show the weather, the app sends approximate coordinates, rounded to about 1 km, to Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com). For imported photos, it looks up the weather at the time the photo was taken by sending the photo's approximate location and capture date to Open-Meteo's forecast service or its historical weather service (archive-api.open-meteo.com). Like any internet request, this also reveals your IP address to the service. No account or identifier of ours is attached.
8 Maps
Minimaps and map views load map images (tiles) from OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap and Esri (ArcGIS World Imagery) tile servers. These requests reveal the area being displayed and your IP address to those providers, and they carry a User-Agent that identifies the app (its name, version and a contact link), as the providers' usage policies require. Downloaded tiles are cached on your device so they can be reused without downloading them again. During batch stamping, the app downloads the map tiles around each imported photo's location to draw its minimap.
9 Network time check
To record a trustworthy capture time, the app compares your device clock with network time when it starts, when it returns to the foreground and about every 30 minutes. It sends an empty HEAD request to our website (geosnapr.mint-soft.com) — or, if that fails, to www.google.com — and reads only the time from the response. The request contains no identifiers, location or photo data; like any internet request, it exposes your IP address and the app's User-Agent to that server. Google handles such requests under its own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
10 Advertising (free version)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). Google may collect device identifiers (such as the Android advertising ID), your IP address, coarse location derived from your IP address and ad interaction data to deliver, measure and — where you consent — personalize ads. Where required (for example in the EEA, the UK and certain US states), the app shows Google's consent form (User Messaging Platform); you can change your choice later in Settings › Ad privacy settings. On iOS, the app does not request tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency), so your advertising identifier (IDFA) is not accessed and ads are not personalized based on tracking across other companies' apps and websites. GeoSnapr Pro users see no ads. Learn more at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
11 In-app purchases
GeoSnapr Pro is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which handle the payment — we never see your card or payment details. RevenueCat processes purchase and receipt data together with an anonymous app user ID to verify, unlock and restore Pro (revenuecat.com/privacy).
12 Data sent to Mint-Soft
The app connects to our app-management service, operated by Mint-Soft, for version checks, maintenance notices and anonymous usage counts. When the app starts and when a session ends, it sends a random install ID created on your device, the platform, app version, operating system version, language/region setting and session length. If an error occurs, the app sends an error report (error message, stack trace, app version and platform). If you send feedback from the app, we receive the message you write. No photos, coordinates or addresses are ever sent.
13 Reports, sharing and auto-copy to a folder
PDF, CSV, KML, Excel, KMZ and ZIP reports are created on your device and contain the photos and details you include — for example precise coordinates, addresses, times, notes and sensor readings. They stay on your device until you share or save them; then they go only to the app, person or place you choose and are handled under that recipient's own policies. Excel reports can include a link for each photo that opens its location in Google Maps; if you or a recipient open it, the coordinates are sent to Google. With auto-copy (Pro), new photos, videos and reports — and, if you turn them on, the un-stamped originals and a CSV of each record's details — are copied to a folder you pick with your system's file picker (the Storage Access Framework on Android, the Files app on iOS). GeoSnapr writes only to that folder and uploads nothing itself. If the folder belongs to a cloud storage provider (for example Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or iCloud Drive), that provider syncs the copies to its servers under its own terms and privacy policy. You can turn auto-copy off or choose another folder at any time; copies already in the folder stay there until you delete them.
14 Wi‑Fi PC viewer and backups
When you turn on the PC viewer, your phone serves your photos only over your local network, to the browser where you open the address or QR code shown in the app. Nothing passes through our servers, and sharing stops when you turn the viewer off. Backup files — your records, photos, videos and audio notes — are created on your device and are shared only to the place you choose.
15 This website
This website uses Google Analytics to understand how it is visited (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser information), using cookies. Photos you check on the Verify page are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded — neither the photo nor its metadata is sent to us or to Google Analytics. The website does not collect any data from the app.
16 Data retention
Data on your device remains until you delete it or the app. Reports, backups and copies you have shared, saved or auto-copied to a folder are outside the app, so deleting a record or the app does not remove them. Anonymous usage and error data on our service is kept only as long as needed for the purposes above. Network time check requests are used only to read the time, and we do not link them to you. Google (ads, address lookup on Android and the network time check), Apple, RevenueCat, Open-Meteo, the map providers and any cloud storage provider you choose retain data under their own policies.
17 Children
GeoSnapr is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
18 Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under the GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA or Korea's Personal Information Protection Act — you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Your photos, videos, audio notes and locations are stored only on your device, so you control them directly: delete records in the app, or delete the app to remove all local data. You can revoke camera, location, microphone, motion and photo access in your device settings, turn off app lock, biometric unlock and auto-copy in the app, and change ad consent in the app. To have the anonymous usage and error data linked to your install ID deleted from our service, contact us. We do not sell your personal information.
19 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will revise the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will provide notice in the app or on this website.
